As part of our ongoing mission to make looting fairer and at the same time benefit the raid more than just individuals (ie spending EP for a small upgrade when it's a huge upgrade to another player) We're currently looking at a few different loot systems to use either instead of, or alongside EPGP.
One of the main ones which is of interest is the Ask Mr Robot Team Optimizer. This compares loot as it drops it to the armoury of the raid team and ranks it according to class/spec/stat prio.
This is not to say that people won't be able to roll on stuff they want but will allow for us to make more informed choices when looting. Individuals will be able to easily see if they are spending points on relatively small upgrades when the loot could be much more beneficial to another player and as a result the raid group as a whole.
That said, you earned the EPGP, spend it how you see fit but it allows you and the rest of the group to see the bigger picture and be more considerate when taking an item
Of course all changes to loot rules etc cause headaches, animosity, scepticism, and sometimes problems, however unless we try we will not know.

Last guild used epgp (just for the rolling system mostly not for the points) and then they had a loot council who would decide who it was the biggest upgrade for etc. There is a notes section that you can write in to say how many tier gear you have so they know if it would give you a bonus. The loot council was dps players so that the rest of the raid could carry on clearing.
