With a few upcoming changes I feel I need to make a thread about why someone might be preffed out of a raid. I haven't written one of these threads for a while but I guess it's about time. Though I feel like I'm slightly shooting myself in the foot as the raid sign up aren't amazing of late. Never-the-less it's something that needs to be addressed.
As you all know the game World of Warcraft is essentially a game of progression, from the very minute you start playing it's about getting better and better - leveling, picking up that awesome crude mail vest from a mangy wolf all the way up to raiding, normal mode, heroic, mythic, achievements.
It taps right into the reward mechanisms we all have in our brains - we do something, and as a reward we get something. It's evolved behaviour to motivate us to get off our arses to do stuff, hunt for food - you get to eat...
The price of progression in WoW is more challenging content. The greater the challenge, the greater the demand on player abilities but the greater the reward. And not getting into raids is what happens when player ability clashes with what's demanded by the content. It is absolutely as simple as that.
Everyone raiding should have a pretty good idea on how well they are doing in their role. Just as its my job to provide you raids, it's your job to self assess and improve. If you somehow have no idea then check the logs for our raids and have a look to see where improvements can be made
The bottom line is your performance is not really an issue unless you make it an issue
I've been organising raids for a while and I know everyone has different abilities, some are freaking amazing, some are just ok, some are bad if they need to do certain things and some are just plain bad.
But everyone raiding must understand that as we climb the great mountain of raid progression at some point the weaker players will fall behind of what's demanded of them and essentially the stronger players must carry them. I believe everyone who wants to raid should get to raid regardless of skill, and in time I will always try my best to balance and accommodate everyone who signs up.
However this only works to a point. Sometimes the raid content is simply too difficult for us as a group to bring everyone. I've said this before but if my performance was too low and my presence is preventing us from killing a boss I would absolutely volunteer and say, "I am fucking you guys up, I'll bail and you guys kill this bastard! (and bring me when you can kill it)", and I would do this genuinely happily. The quicker the guild progresses, the stronger the guild becomes and the quicker we can bring weaker players so they can see and enjoy new content too.
So if you get excluded from raids I'm sorry! I don't want to exclude you, it's not personal. It's pretty much a last resort.
At the end of the day, it's just a game, it's not worth getting upset over.
